Discover our initiatives to preserve, enhance and transform the Medina of Tunis.
A project targeting young people aged 18 to 26, designed to train those who have dropped out of school or wish to switch career paths by transitioning into alternative tourism in the Medina. The program combines training with job opportunities. The project ran from February 2024 to July 2025. There were 5 cohorts, about 12 young people per cohort, totaling 55 candidates. Mostly from the Medina, though some came from other parts of Grand Tunis.
Médina des Lumières” (Light Medina) is a recurring cultural / artistic event in the Medina of Tunis that takes place during Ramadan. Its aim is to highlight the historical, architectural, cultural and artistic heritage of the Medina, especially at night, through illuminations, performances, artisan displays, gastronomy, etc.
Tunis Mosaïque vivante or “Tunis, Living Mosaic” took place in Tunis from October 27 to November 3, 2024. Throughout the week, a series of cultural activities and events were offered, including interactive workshops, art exhibitions, guided tours, and musical performances. Led by the DMO Tunis Carthage, the initiative included Mdinti as a strategic partner in the Medina. Within this framework, various workshops were organized, showcasing leatherwork, pottery, calligraphy, a fashion show, and other forms of artisanal and cultural expression.
The project “chantier école” was held on June 4, following a cycle organized from May 26 to June 4 at Dar Hssin. This chantier école was part of the pilot training workshops on heritage trades related to restoration. Two types of workshops were offered at Dar Ben Abdallah: 💡 Workshop on architectural study and diagnostic methods 💡 Workshop on heritage masonry The project is implemented by COPAM, in collaboration with the National Heritage Institute (INP), and in partnership with ASM, ENAU, ISMP, ENIT, Tunistoric, Mdinti, and Dar Ben Gacem.
The Mouldiya, organized by the Association de la Culture du Stambali Tunisie “Sidi Ali Lasmar”, was held in partnership with Mdinti during the 8th and 9th editions in 2024 and 2025. The celebration, marking the Mawlid of the Prophet, took place in the Medina of Tunis.
Jeridet Mdinti is a journal where members of Mdinti – true lovers of the Medina – write articles, mostly in Darija, the Tunisian local dialect. They share their experiences, stories, and hidden gems of the Medina, weaving together its secrets and soul. The first edition (May 2025) is now complete and ready to be unveiled. If the Medina inspires you, if you carry stories within you, or if you wish to share its magic in Darija or in any language, we warmly invite you to join us and add your voice to this living chronicle.
FEELMEDINA is an initiative that offered tourist activities in the Medina of Tunis during weekends over a six-month period. The project is supported by the “Promotion of Sustainable Tourism” program, a joint action of the European Union under the Tounes Wijhetouna program and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is implemented by GIZ in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism.
